our dogs barking naturally without a dog barking collar. Insistent dog barking can be very irritating and frustrating with many owners reverting to a dog barking collar which is a quick and difficult fix for your dogs barking. Follow these three steps with time and patience to correct your dogs barking in a natural and humane way.
1. DONT REWARD BARKING
We have a soft spot for our furry friends, and most of them know it. Rewarding a barking dog with a treat or positive reinforcement simply teaches your dog that barking will have a positive end result. This is known as conditioning.
When your dog begins to bark, ignore him/her. Go about your business without giving any attention. Many barking issues stem from the fact that the dog has been conditioned to receive positive reinforcement for their barking. Cutting the opiate will begin to remove the conditioning.
NOTE: This takes patience. If a dog's barking wasn't annoying, you wouldn't be on this site trying to find a humane and natural way to stop it.
2. EXCERSIES TO WIND YOUR DO DOWN
Another issue dogs have is that they have loads of energy (most of them). Many times barking is your dogs release of built up energy and wanting to play and release that energy (mental stimulation). Make sure you exercise your dog on a regular basis with walks, throwing chew toys, and playing in the sun. It sounds like a simple tip, yet for many dog owners (especially those who have indoor dogs) this is an overseen detail.
NOTE: If you are going to walk your dog, make sure you walk your dog around a small area only. Walking your dog has a side effect of giving your dog a larger territory.
3. BARRIERS
Unfortunately, many barking situations come from external stimuli. Sometimes, the only way to fully and truly minimize your dogs barking in a natural way is to simply remove or block the stimuli. If your do is accustom to jumping on the couch to look out of the window to bark at the people passing by, that is not necessarily your dogs fault. That one is more yours. Block external stimuli from your dog or help train them to not be put into an area where the external stimuli will tempt your dog from barking.
